The New York Institute of Technology has announced that it is the first American university to be licensed in the United Arab Emirates. There are currently 350 students enrolled, with 1,500 projected in three years. — News Day

Palo Verde College is revamping its enterprise resource planning with the adoption of Datatel Colleague, becoming the 40th community college in California to adopt the solution. The college is also deploying Datatel ActiveAdmissions for recruitment and ActiveCampus Portal as its portal solution. — Campus Technology

Louisiana State University is replacing two learning management systems on its campus with Moodle, an open-source LMS/CMS popular in higher education and elsewhere. — Campus Technology

As part of its 2007-2008 technology goals, Fremont School District in California had deployed appliances from Blue Coat Systems to improve Web security and reduce bandwidth consumption. The district is also using the Blue Coat ProxySG appliances to provide Web security and policy control across its Internet gateway. — T.H.E. Journal

Beaufort County School District in South Carolina is overhauling its network infrastructure to facilitate e-learning applications and to help provide advanced online professional development through the use of streaming video. The Alabama Department of Education received a $79,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation to expand the online educational resources available through a special Web portal, the Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX) at http://alex.state.al.us. — CNN

Summit Partners today announced it has acquired Touro University International, a provider of online postsecondary education, from Touro College. The new university has been renamed TUI University and is operating as an independent entity as of November 1, 2007. — dBusiness News
