Here’s our take on news that matters for Monday, November 7. Today’s theme is media. There are definitely a number of “growing” news items that portend the shape of things to come. Here’s our take on a few of them.
- First of all, we see that Yahoo and Google are both making new wireless overtures. Yahoo soon will introduce a cell phone it will sell through a partnership with SBC Communications, and Google is tailoring some Internet services for use on wireless devices. Starting Monday, consumers using some types of cell phones will be able to access Google Maps wirelessly.
- And speaking of media darling Yahoo, that company is also partnering with TiVo to connect services.
These two companies have partnered to schedule downloads to TiVo boxes from any Internet connection. - One of the big unknowns in the media convergence world is the eventual access of AOL. As the NY Times reports today, there are many suitors and many pitfalls in the bidding for AOL.
- Finally, in case you sold short on podcasting, guess again. this is a solid trend which, according to Businessweek, is showing no signs of slowing.
