The Imagined Classroom

My next high school reunion is in a couple of years and I’m pretty sure I’ll miss this one. Not that missing it will be a new experience. Heck, I didn’t go to the last three before this one either. The reason I stay away, I guess, is that I tend to prefer my imagination over historical accuracy. Continue reading ‘The Imagined Classroom’

Appropriate Leadership for the Learning Organization

As learning organizations seek to expand their distance programs (online and mobile technologies), and to find the best and most appropriate use of technology, there is an increasing awareness that the strategic planning methods of the past are often inadequate. Leadership theories that focus on managing change do not address the issues of long-term constituencies who have unchanging long-term goals, although the methods of achieving the goals are constantly problematized by situational, financial and technological barriers and change. The communications network has been compromised, and outsiders are masquerading as team members. How does the team achieve its mission without splintering due to paranoia, suspicion, and distrust of information? Continue reading ‘Identity Thieves: An Updated, Online “Ropes” Type Course for Distributed Team-Building’

If you can develop diagnostic instruments that tie not only to best practices in one area, but incorporate vision, values, and project management philosophy with tactics and strategy, you will have a better idea of whether or not your organization is accomplishing its goals and heading in the right direction. Orality and Mobility

Mobility is a much talked about trend in education these days. Wireless installations, laptops, handheld computers, and iPods are the common subjects of pilot studies, articles, and new educational products. The problem is that mobility as technology — disconnected from content — remains simply another tool that is only loosely integrated with the core educational mission.
