Click every button, search high and low… and in Klingon

So why didn’t anybody tell me this…???
Tonight - for the first time - I clicked the Preferences link in Google.
Normally I tell people: click every button, just to see what happens. But not Google: I just see right through it, I am always so busy doing stuff with Google that I didn’t even think about my Google preferences.
Man, how did I not know this.
The first preference it asks you for is Interface Language.
And they are not kidding around - here are the options.
AfrikaansAlbanianAmharicArabicAzerbaijaniBasqueBelarusianBengaliBihariBork, bork, bork!BosnianBulgarianCatalanChinese (Simplified)Chinese (Traditional)CroatianCzechDanishDutchElmer FuddEnglishEsperantoEstonianFaroeseFinnishFrenchFrisianGalicianGeorgianGermanGreekGujaratiHackerHebrewHindiHungarianIcelandicIndonesianInterlinguaIrishItalianJapaneseJavaneseKannadaKlingonKoreanLatinLatvianLithuanianMacedonianMalayMalayalamMalteseMarathiNepaliNorwegianNorwegian (Nynorsk)OccitanPersianPig LatinPolishPortuguese (Brazil)Portuguese (Portugal)PunjabiRomanianRussianScots GaelicSerbianSinhaleseSlovakSlovenianSpanishSundaneseSwahiliSwedishTagalogTamilTeluguThaiTigrinyaTurkishUkrainianUrduUzbekVietnameseWelshXhosaZulu
Every language teacher should know this - unless you are teaching Tatar or Tibetan, two of the languages that are still under development.
The Latin is wonderful! I saved Latin as my interface language and now I can explorare Googles ope - search by means of Google. I cannot believe I was teaching online Latin and did not know that I could have my whole interface in Latin.

Look at the great advice it gives me when my search fails:

Believe me - it’s good advice! :-)
And then there is… Klingon.

I can change my preferences to Klingon, but what if I cannot find the English option to change my preferences back to English. I don’t know how to say “English” in Klingon! (In Latin, you have to change your interface back to Anglica).
Okay, I’m going to take the plunge. Here’s Klingon Google: I’ll do an image search (apparently “nagh beQ nejwI’”) for Worf. It works:

And thank goodness: apparently “English” in Klingon is just that: English. So I was able to save my preferences back to English.
So… why didn’t anybody tell me about this? It just goes to show: everybody keeps the best secrets for themselves!
Actually no - they just assume that you know already… but until we all do become omniscient: click every button and every link… or else you will never know what is out there!

The Klingon example is so much fun! Yes, Clicking every button is great advice! I don’t know what to say to those who are not curious enough, but we need to keep reminding the rest that clicking buttons is not as dangerous as they might think (or feel without thinking). Apparently, none of them can set the computer on fire or detonate a nuclear warhead or steal a credit card number. (And by the way, I apologize for not telling you about the google preferences, I thought you knew…) :-)
