XPLANA CW Interactive Features
A variety of interactive features are included to promote interaction and sharing among system users. These interactive features apply to both Journals and also to the content found in Library Units and Course Units (along with student Projects).
Make Comments. Journal/Unit entries can be commented on by system users, and comments-on-comments make it possible to have an extended discussion. These Comments appear at the bottom of the Journal/Unit entry page. Comments can be viewed in summary form, in full form, or can be hidden from view. Comments can also be filtered and sorted. When a comment is created, the author of the immediately preceding entry is notified, as is the owner of the Journal/Unit. Continue reading ‘XPLANA CW Interactive Features’

XPLANA CW Alias Identities

XPLANA CW Alias Identities
Alias Identities. Instructors in the system also have the ability to create “alias” Journals. An “alias” is a fake identity created in the system, which has all the rights and privileges of a normal user. Each Alias identity is owned by a single Instructor in the system. XPLANA CW Journal Profile

XPLANA CW Journal Profile
Public Profile. The public side of the Profile is where the user can share information with other XPLANA users. This includes, at a minimum, the user’s email address, and a link to their Journal. Optionally, it can also include a link to a webpage outside the XPLANA system. Users are also asked to provide information about their state/country, and they can provide a paragraph “About Me.” If the user has made a course Project available to the public, there will be a link to that Project in the Profile. Instructor Profiles also contain links to Courses taught and to Library Units authored by the instructor. Continue reading ‘XPLANA CW Journal Profile’

Modular Units. By using modular units, you can create an array of content and let your students choose which units they want to pursue. In order to do this, the units have to represent comparable amounts of work for the students. So, for example, the Course Resource Units, which contain the course readings and other resources, should represent a standard amount of time that it would take students to complete. The Course Activities Units, which contain the assignments and activities, should represent an equivalent portion of the overall course grade. When the Course Units are built in this way, it is possible to create a calendar that contains required units, selected by the instructor, along with optional units, which the students select individually. XPLANA CW Assessments and Feedback
Assessments. Unlike Surveys, which do not have right or wrong answers, Assessments do have right and wrong answers. Also unlike Surveys, which do not collect individual data, Assessments report both individual and aggregate data. Yet this does not mean that all Assessment are graded: an Assessment can be either graded (in which case results are recorded for each individual in the Gradebook) or they can be ungraded (no results are recorded in the Gradebook). XPLANA CW Surveys

XPLANA CW Surveys
Surveys. Surveys do not have right or wrong answers, and they collect only aggregate data. An individual taking a survey can receive individual feedback about their answers, but the answers themselves are reported only in aggregate form, not linked to any individual respondent. Surveys can be used in a Course, and it is also possible for a Journal to include a Survey. Continue reading ‘XPLANA CW Surveys’
